Possum Trot Children's Book

Mostly funded by an ArtsKC Inspiration Grant, the debut children's book written by José Faus, and illustrated by MG Salazar, has been two decades in the making.

Salazar's first employment in Kansas City, MO, after graduating high school, was at a program called Studio 150. Faus was their manager. There began a friendship that's never wavered throughout the years, and a professional encouragement that is only fitting to culminate into a book.

"Possum Trot", is an ode to Kansas City and its resilience. Once considered a candidate for the moniker for Kansas City, Possum Trot follows a group of neighborhood children who notice the moon is about to fall from the sky. The adults distracted by a football game, the children band together to make the moon whole again, and return it to its heavenly home. It answers the question of why, in such bad times, would anyone have children?

Beautifully written in verse by award-winning Kansas City poet and artist José Faus, this harrowing tale will delight every generation, and encourages reading as a family. Award-winning artist MG Salazar has created fourteen unique canvas paintings for each detailed illustration.
