M.G. Salazar

MG Salazar is a queer genizara author/artist/activist of New Mexican origin that recently relocated from KCMO.

 

Founding La Resistencia Press in 2018, Salazar is the author of three poetry books. They have written for KCUR - NPR Affiliate

and are currently serving as a judge for the 2023 Maya Angelou Book Award. Salazar is also the winner of many grants and awards for their art and poetry.

 

Salazar was a subject in the 2017 HBO documentary "Abortion: Stories Women Tell". They are also a two-time Emmy award winner for their culinary work on Seasons 3 & 4 of Queer Eye for Netflix. Salazar has worked on projects for Food Network, NBC, and People Magazine.

 

They have been a panelist at the Tribeca Film Festival, the Citizen Jane Film Festival, and spoken/guest-lectured at numerous universities and museums including: the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the University of Missouri, the Kansas City Art Institute, KU, K-State, Pittsburg State, and others.

 

Salazar's political and artistic life is documented in the GLAMA Archives and La Budde Special Collections at the Miller Nichols Library at the University of Missouri - Kansas City, where they recently graduated with a BA in Political Science. They hope to attend graduate school soon.

 

Outside of publishing, politics, and art, MG Salazar is an avid horseback archer.
